Some will say a trip to the tile store is like an adventure to a theme park! Look around and see various gorgeous designs, shapes, and sizes.
You'll want to buy them all. Don't, however, because you need to consider your project's needs. Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Can I use floor tiles on the wall?
Yes, you can use floor tiles on vertical surfaces. Wall tiles, however, should never be used on the floor.
Floor tiles are thicker, heavier, less slippery, and can handle weight, such as appliances, cabinets, or walking. On the other hand, wall tiles are thinner, and more fragile sand will crack under pressure.
Tell the experts in the tile shop exactly how and where you plan to use them. The right or wrong tile will make or break a remodeling project.
What does C1 mean?
Tiles are broken into categories. Each has different strength levels that determine where and how they are used.
C1 means the tile is used only on indoor walls. As the numbers go up, so does the strength. The best rating for residential use is C3 or C4.
Are porcelain and ceramic tiles the same?
No. both behave differently in various installations. Porcelain is heavier, denser, and ideal as a floor tile in busy rooms with a lot of wear and tear.
Porcelain can also be used outside on deck and patio floors. It stands up to the most severe weather.
Ceramic tiles are thinner, highly designed, and often glazed. They're used on moderately busy floors, countertops, and shower/tub surrounds.
What is color body porcelain?
The porcelain glaze closely matches the color of the bisque. This gives it a more consistent color that hides chips and scratches better.
Our tile store carries color body porcelain. We'd be happy to show you and tell you more.
